You’re Never Lost with a Camera Phone (Someday)

With camera phones quickly outpacing digital camera sales, it’s not that surprising that new uses for these wonderfully handy devices. This one is really cool, say your lost in a city, take a picture of where you are, and then submit the photo to a server that uses three-dimensional models of the buildings in that city to pinpoint your location to the meter. Not bad. It’s still the dream of two researchers at Cambridge University, but it may not be outside the realm of possibility.

New Scientist:
“For a small fee, photo recognition software on a remote server works out precisely where you are, and sends back directions that will get you to your destination.”
